Dr. Clarissa Velayo, who did collaborate research with Kimura laboratory in 2013, and her faculty members from University of the Philippines Manila College of Medicine, including Vice Chancellor and Chair of Department of Physiology, made a courtesy visit to Tohoku University Hospital and School of Medicine. During this visiting, the international exchange seminar was held, and speakers for this seminar participated from both universities.

August 30th - September 2nd, 2016
Professor Kimura, Doctor Oshio and Mr. Tomita (Cloud Sense Co., Ltd.) visited Ph.D. Kevin Cleary and Professor Mary T.Donofrio of Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC) in Washington D.C., both agreed about supporting to promote international development of fetal ECG.
CNMC did the measurement of fetal electrocardiogram for the first time in U.S.A. using the fetal ECG apparatus which was developed by Professor Kimura.
Many events were held during this visiting: Professor Kimura gave the lecture about “Technological development of Noninvasive fetal electrocardiogram and its possibility.”, also Professor Ahsan Khandoker from KHALIFA University, which is joining the collaboration research with Kimura lab, and Doctor Anita from CNMC lectured, too.

     




June 11-23th, 2016
As Australia-Japan Bilateral Exchange Program, we had a guest from Deakin University, Australia!
Dr. Chandan stayed for 2 weeks in Kimura lab to join in the collaboration research.

Professor Kimura and Professor Yaegashi received an award of the Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
The awards ceremony was held at MEXT on Wednesday April 20, 2016.

Professor Kimura, Mr. Ohwada (Atom Medical Corp.) and Mr.Sashida(Atom Medical Corp.) were invited to Japan- Australia Science and Innovation Connect (JASIC) organized by the Australian Academy of Technological sciences and Engineering (ATSE).

Premature delivery and fetal brain damage are very serious issues in the world including Australia and Japan. Our aim is to establish a next generation fetal monitoring system though this collaborations with Australian institutes. I (Prof. Yoshitaka Kimura) visited the university of Melbourne (Prof. Marimuthu Palaniswami) and The Royal women’s hospital (Prof. Shaun Brennecke). We discussed how to establish our collaboration.
We agreed on the following points,
1) Continuation of joint research project through ARC Linkage Project.
2) Start of a new research project to test fetal ECG machine at Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne and design of fetal ECG measurement protocol.
3) Development of a new research project targeting to monitor fetal brain function in collaboration with University of Melbourne and Royal Women’s Hospital.
Professor Palaniswami’s team will provide necessary support to analyze the fetal ECG data and Prof Brennecke’s team will provide all supports to implement fetal ECG machine at Royal Women’s Hospital.
